Waking Up from a Food Coma

My body has been begging for this. It has been begging me to give it a little space. Space between the emotional eating, the promises that tomorrow I’ll avoid chocolate, salt, alcohol, carbs. All those things that seem so unavoidable, seem to keep finding themselves lodged in my gullet.

It’s like I’ve been suffocating. Working out for an hour or two to negate last nights drinks. Hoping to squeak in something other than negation and lose some of that winter weight, possibly gain some muscle. I’ve always been bad at math. Apparently 1 too many treats + 1 treadmill=absolutely no change.

So I’ve taken it upon myself to force a sort of intervention. I called out to my good friends at PALETA, whom I’ve trusted for years to get me detoxed, and back on the horse that will make me want to gallop to the beach. I’ve also made sure that those of you who are joining me on this healthy retreat are supported, with my dedication, advice and one another. Maybe it’ll be easier to share the sometimes dreadful times of detoxing. The depression, the sadness of cells cleaning out garbage and grit that have dampened my energy need to go! I need to feel refreshed and new. From the inside out.

As we all know, the saddest, hardest times are usually those when we get to see the most beautiful parts of ourselves. I’ve never left an honest conversation feeling like I’ve lost something. In those conversations there’s always fear, vulnerability, anger and sadness. Followed with a reassuring hug, once those emotions are exposed, healing begins. Emotions aren’t much different from body parts. So how can this be bad for me? How can it be bad for you? I hope you are keeping track of your progress, and know that you’re not alone in the tough parts, which means you’re also not alone in the celebration of a cleansed body, ready to re-acclimate to cleaner life once your detox is over.

For now, we are at the dawn. The beginning. It’s scary, it’s new, it’s a first time for some of you to attempt something that some may deem pretty extreme. But the only thing I would approve of is a guided detox, through a meal cleanse, with a system that you trust that works within your comfort zone. If it starts to get too hard, reach out to me. Reach out to someone who has been through it. Much like exercise, sometimes when your muscles start to shake and your mind starts telling you to back off is when you are hitting an emotional side to your resistance. The other side is strength. The other side is power. Get there safely and honestly. Remember you are not alone and no one knows you better than you know yourself. Finish what you started, and I guarantee you’ll be stronger than before.
