Blue Tica’s !! Workout Playlist – 20 Tracks

Blue Tica, yes that is her real name, (how jealous are you?) is one of my favorite boot camp students. She is young, smart, hot, and has insane taste in music. So obviously I asked her to be our guest DJ for April! She brings you some classics like Cranberries, Blondie, and A Flock of Seagulls. But inspires you with some super sweet slick new beats like (my favorite) “Losing You” by Solange, “Falling” from Haim, and many, MANY more. This playlist is GREAT for working out, but also cranking out some writing as I learned today. The variety in the choices, but consistency in the selection allows you to sink into whatever you are doing while you listen. Enjoy! This IS one of my favs!

6 EASY Tips To Stay Accountable to Your Workout Session

1. Sign in and pay for a class you can’t cancel.

Something happens when we have paid for something! It’s more than just the cash, it’s the processes of paying that commits us to attend.

2. Make a plan with a friend and have a penalty for bailing on the other person.

Create a solid and specific workout plan with your buddy. Time, location, and workout details. If one of you bails you must have a penalty (other than being a shitty friend) that you owe your workout pal. Like a mani, massage, or cleaning her kitchen! *I always ask my friends NOT to tell me they are bailing so I have still show up! I’d rather be annoyed they bailed then annoyed at myself for losing my motivation.

P.S. I hate the gym! But if I have to go…

3. Post to Facebook or Twitter your workout goal and plan for the next day.

Ain’t nothing like sharing with …

I Love Ojai, California.

As most of you know I am OBSESSED with Ojai. I love that it is only 90 mins from L.A. and that it feels like I’m on another planet. The people are so kind. The Topa Topa mountains are pure magic. The air has a sweetness I can’t capture with words, and the easy pace is contagious. After so many people asking me where I stay, eat, and do yoga, I’ve decide to write about it and spill all my secrets. Enjoy! Let me know what you think.

My Story

We went here to celebrate my birthday. I wanted luxury and someone to bring me drinks pool side. The service was beyond PERFECT! It’s a very special place. We loved wondering the property and I truly …

Awesome Arms Workout – The Skull Crusher

Don’t be frightened by its name- The Skull Crusher! It is one of the most effective exercises to tone & sculpt every inch of your arms.

Lay on your back, knees bent and feet flat. Elbows are bent and right over your shoulders, palms face each other. Push your arms back over your head, as if you were sliding them across a table (moves 1 & 2). Repeat for 20 reps.

Bring your arms back to the starting position, then straighten your arms to the sky. Your arms only move from the elbows & your upper arms are still (moves 3 & 4). Repeat for 20 reps.

No More Bat Wings – Triceps Kickback Exercise

Holly’s “No More Bat Wings” workout will tone those hard to reach trouble spots! This awesome arms exercise focuses on your triceps, biceps, shoulders, and even works your core.

You may start standing or kneeling. However, if you are on your knees you must engage your core a bit more for stability (always a great thing)!

Start with elbows bent by your sides, palms facing in. Hinge just from the elbows to extend your arms away from you – this is a tricep kickback. Do 20 repetitions (moves 1 & 2).

Then, turn the weights out and flip your palms so they are facing up. Keep your grip loose on the weights and pulse your straight arms up and down for 20 reps (moves 3 & 4).

Repeat both exercises for 3 sets of 20 reps each.

My Italian Diary: Day 13 What I learned at the cemetery

After eating two desserts last night I felt I needed an extra epic run. I set off from Montefioralle, the tiny village where we are staying, and set my sights on running through town and across to the other hillside. Having never been there I knew I had no idea what to expect except it looked very steep. My two desserts propelled my Lorna Jane adorned body up the hillside of the unknown incline. I held my heart rate at 95% for nearly seven minutes. I was DYING! Soaking wet, breathless, and proud, I stopped collapsed at the top. Once I came to a halt and unfolded my frame to stand up like a normal person I realized I was standing at the entrance of a cemetery.

And what does one do when they come across a cemetery while running?

Exactly. You go in!

As I entered, nothing could prepare me for what …

My Italian Diary: Day 11

I’m learning to speak from my heart and talk with my eyes.

I’m not, how you say, exactly fluent in Italiano. I’m not even a little good. OK, I’m actually super bad.

When I first came to Italy and I wanted to say something, or better yet, ask for something, I would get the words into my head by saying it over and over while staring at the ground,  trying to force the language into my wine soaked brain. I would become so focused on the WORDS, the exact words, that when I started to speak I looked as if I needed medical attention. My eyes were open as wide as possible, my volume was on max, and I would actually lean forward onto my toes and stare deep into the eyes of the person I was addressing. The look I got back from this poor soul was one of complete horror. They had no idea 1, what the hell I was saying, 2, why I looked as if I had a dagger lodge into my spleen and 3, why …

My Italian Diary: Day 10

There is so much about this country that just amazes me.

But I am seriously baffled how Italians seem to be able to eat anything and everything that they want and never get fat!

I know, I know! I should have started this statement by saying something about the beauty, or the art, or the history. But alas, I am an American girl in Italy and what I notice first is that these fine people eat starch and cheese all day and are slimmer than most Beverly Hills housewives. HOW CAN THIS BE?!?

I believe I’ve found their secret!

5 reasons Italians eat whatever they want and stay slim.

1. Their food is real! And it’s ALL organic.

No crap. No fake stuff. At all. Imagine for a moment that every single time you ate, you ate real, whole, and fresh food. It’s so sad I had to just “ask you to imagine” that.

2. It tastes really F#c$ing good!

We all know it’s true. Real, whole ingredients make the best tasting food. The better your food taste the more …
